The VBREE Regional Initiative

Virginia has come a long way to increase child care choice, quality, access, and affordability – but child care challenges persist. These gaps require working together across state, regional, and private sector partners to build a child care system that results in school-ready children, work-ready families, and business-ready communities.

The Virginia Business Roundtable for Early Education (VBREE) was founded in 2023 with the belief that Virginia’s prosperity and quality of life are dependent upon a strong early childhood care and education system.

Launched July 1, 2025, the VBREE Regional Initiative harnesses the power of cross-industry regional leaders to identify and implement regional solutions to regional child care challenges. The VBREE Regional Initiative creates a unified structure for progress across Virginia’s nine Ready Regions toward priority goals to:

  1. Promote child care as essential to Virginia’s modern economy and quality of life priorities.
  2. Accelerate the expanded supply of classrooms, sites, and environments to deliver game-changing child care services.
  3. Substantially upgrade the capabilities within the child care industry and the stature of the early educator profession.

Innovations to build child care supply are underway in regions across the state.

The VBREE Regional Initiative builds on the existing infrastructure of key state and regional partners.
